Live Oak Canyon - Trabuco Canyon was one of the first roads I found in Southern California when I was finally able to afford a vehicle to make the effort worth it. While it isn't a very long road at 5 miles long, it is still quite fun and quite close to civilization so it doesn't take that long to get there. It also has some sections that are quite interesting to drive down in the daylight with the old trees hanging over the roadway, kind of a natural tunnel that enhances your sense of speed. Of course the trunks of those old trees are right at the edge of the road, so be careful.

The biggest problem with this road is one of it's draws, it's proximity to populated Orange County. While never completely vacant, the traffic on Live Oak has definitely increased in recent years. There are also housing developments being finished, which add much more traffic than the original scattering of single homes.

At the northeast end finding Live Oak is easy, just look for Cook's Corner restaurant. On the weekends this establishment is usually surrounded by motorcycles, makes it hard to miss. Watch out for the fire station and school towards the southern end, especially on weekdays. There is a bridge (see map) that is really more of a wash, during rain storms this may be flooded and watch out for dirt and gravel on the roadway. The caution note marks some VERY tight corners, so adjust your speed accordingly.

About the only descent road in O.C., but still has a lot of cars on it.

It gets crowded at the southern end.

Crossing the river and climbing up the end. Watch out for that bridge!
