I've known about Palos Verdes Dr. E. for quite some time, in fact it was a favorite as my friends started getting motorcycles and we needed a place to ride while they were still on permits. Palos Verdes Dr. S. is a nice drive or ride up the coast through Rancho Palos Verdes and Palos Verdes Estates, Palos Verdes Dr. E. can often be found deserted and you can take a few minutes to have a little fun.

Starting at the south end where PV Dr. E. ends at PV Dr. S. you climb up around the base of the hill and then start some serious climbing with a series of 3 large switchbacks with some nice straights (you could probably get up some speed on these but that just wouldn't be safe…) between them.

While the road is about 6.3-miles from the southern end to Palos Verdes Dr. N. (real creative with these names aren't they?) it is only the first section that is free of driveways. Once you reach the top of the hill and start winding around the side you will find many more cross streets and residential driveways. Still, considering there isn't another decently curvy and relatively empty road for 25-miles this will have to do.

- Back to Los Angeles

- Back to LA / OC Region

It's congested, but if you find yourself in the area... Great ocean view from the top when the weather is good.

The best part is the lower section (blue) - no driveways and great switchbacks. Western Ave. (cyan) will take you all the way north to the 405, or head east to the 110 Fwy.

I guess they haven't figured out how to build houses on the steep part of the hill, but give them time.
