UPPER BIG TUJUNGA CYN. Date reviewed - N/A _________________________________ Fun . . . . . . . . 5 Difficulty . . . . .Medium Traffic . . . . . . Light Driveways . . . .None Condition . . . . Good Length . . . . . .9 miles _________________________________ This is another road that I had passed many times, both on Angeles Forest and Angeles Crest, that I had not taken the time to investigate. On the map it doesn't look like it would be in very good condition, but surprisingly it has much better pavement than Angeles Crest and parts of Angeles Forest and considerably less falling rocks or debris. At just less than 9-miles it isn't nearly as long as Angeles Crest or even Angeles Forest, but because it doesn't go anywhere or service any recreational facilities or cross streets there is very little traffic out here. The biggest drawback to this road, at least for some people, is that the posted speed limit is only 35mph, but if that doesn't concern you a lot of fun can be had here. It is a constant elevation drop from Angeles Crest down to Angeles Forest but there really aren't any areas with a severe grade. There are plenty of tight corners to challenge you but there are enough straights to have fun with and plenty of high-speed sweepers as well. For S/B traffic (uphill) there is one passing lane but northbound vehicles will have to get creative if they get stuck behind someone. While there is no shortage of great roads in this area, and this is one of the shorter ones, it is still a great drive and is a convenient cut-through between Angeles Crest and Angeles Highway. NOTE: The Forest Service has "Road Closed" barricades stationed at both ends, indicating this road may be closed at any time and without warning. |
