ALISO CANYON RD. Date reviewed - 6/06 _________________________________ Fun . . . . . . . . 4 Difficulty . . . . .Medium to High Traffic . . . . . . Light Driveways . . . .None Condition . . . . Good Length . . . . . .7 miles _________________________________ Aliso Canyon Rd. always looked like a good cut-through from Soledad Canyon to Angeles Forest Hwy. but it had been closed for quite some time. Apparently a bridge had been washed out by the bad storms a few years back, hence the closure. As of May '06, however, the road is back in business and I finally had an opportunity to check it out. I started from the southern end, where it intersects with Angeles Forest Hwy. At first I wasn't too impressed, the pavement is in good shape and not much traffic or driveways but not much elevation changes or curves either. Things got better the farther north I went though, and eventually you follow the creek that washed out the road and things get a bit more interesting. Some hillocks and river crossings give you enough variety to keep you amused, but nearby Mt. Emma Rd. is a much better diversion. Eventually you will come to a place where the street gets much wider at a housing development, this is just south of Soledad Canyon and makes a good turn-around point if you are headed back to Angeles Forest. Otherwise, continue on to Soledad and head west towards the canyons. |
