Central East

While this road isn't really worth a drive out to the desert just to try, it can make a refreshing break from Highway 14 or 395 when traveling this route. It is about 31 miles from Hwy 14 to Hwy 395, but the draw to this stretch of pavement is that it runs almost perfectly straight (except for the very east end) and is in good shape so a high-speed run is almost requested.

The section west of Garlock Rd. (blue on map) only has a few minor kinks, but while it does run in a straight line the elevation is far from flat. Redrock Rd. runs near the base of some small "mountains" and follows the contours of the desert floor as it has been shaped by runoff. This has left us with a road that more closely resembles a roller coaster, with non-stop "up and down" hills. One of the benefits to this is that it allows a clear line of site from the crests to see if any traffic is coming, yet shields from view in the valleys.

Traffic is light but people do use this road, however given the long sight distances and lack of corners it is fairly easy to pass even though there isn't any dedicated passing sections.
