Sorry, haven't had time to get up that way and find some good stuff. I live in Long Beach so it's a bit of a drive to get up there  Sad

Check out Pashnit.com - he rides bikes and doesn't always note that a road isn't in good enough shape for a car and he charges for the site but he does have a lot of reviews to choose from.

Hopefully next summer I will have time to take a road trip and catalog some more good stuff.

The shortest distance between two points is a straight line, but where is the fun in that?

Or someone from Sacramento can be so kind as to post some reviews from that area!

the road from US 50 out to Plymouth is a nice drive (Latrobe Rd). Lots of awesome sports car roads up near Mosquito too, Mark, and Finnon Reservoir. Maybe someday you'll see a blue VW blow by you.

cal gecko, if you get the free time, run up to Red Bluff on I-5 or 99 and head west on CA 36, but block out the entire day, you'll need it. It runs 140 miles to the (almost) coast, where it intersects with 101, near Fortuna. I've driven this western branch of it (it also heads east from Red Bluff and takes you into Mt Lassen territory and Susanville) a few times, once in the WRX. My favorite road of all time. Too far away for me now! Been begging my father to give me his Alfa GTV6 for a weekend to go run it.

I used to be stationed at Beale AFB just north of Sacramento.  Had a 93 Acura Integra GSR at the time.  It was stock except for an intake and some KYB's.  Anyway, one of my favorite road trips from that area took me to the eastern Sierras.  The route I took was the CA-50 towards Tahoe, South on the 89 to the 395.  The 50 is nice for a freeway but the fun really starts after getting on the 89.  If I remember right, there was hardly any traffic, you go through a couple tiny towns, and I didn't see any CHP.  This was done in April of 2004ish.  The drive is truly epic and the road actually climbs above 8000 feet a couple times.  Road conditions were average to good.  Check it out on google earth for some images of the drive.  I want to do it again.

Another fun route I discovered as a passenger to a white water trip near auburn.  From Auburn, take the 49 south.  Do not cross the river but instead keep going straight onto Old Forest Hill Rd.  Take that up the hill until it hits Forest Hill Rd and go east.  Follow that until the Town of Foresthill.  Turn right onto Mosquito Ridge Rd.  This is an awesome road.  Its got good banking and good pavement from what I remember.  I was only on it until the turnoff for Oxbow Reservoir.  The road continues and I am not sure where to.  Watch out for motorcycles.  I didn't see many but it would be a great road for bikes as well.  Not too many blind corners as far as I can remember.
