Lockwood Valley Condition Thread

On 11/10/2007 Lockwood Valley had a discontinuity where there was no pavement for about 20 feet at the eastern end of the really twisty section.

That's been the case for quite some time, or at least when I rode it several years ago it was like that.

The shortest distance between two points is a straight line, but where is the fun in that?

Negative.  Last month when I went through there it was clear.  This patch is new.

Guess they have a problem with that particular section of road then.

There is also quite a bit of patch work in the twisties now, so keep an eye open...... why they try to fix something that's not broken only to make it worse I'll never understand..

Terrible conditions for anything other than AWD as of a couple weeks ago. Patchy sand/dirt/snow/ice in all the wrong places. Was absolutely no fun at all with RWD.

Was planning to go north again for the April event, but it looks like we should hold off on that.

I just made the complete loop today and Lockwood Valley Rd. is very nice. There are the two light water crossings in the riverbed and a few more very small trickles across the road, but that's it. I could see where there had been water, dirt and mud recently, but it is barely noticeable and very little dirt on the road now.

I made the trip starting from Summerland and heading south on 101 to Hwy 150 around Lake Casitas. Then, a left on La Luna just as you are almost to Ojai and straight over to Hwy 33 heading north.

After going up and over the mountains, I turned right onto Lockwood Valley Rd. and followed it to the junction where I turned left onto Cuddy Valley Rd. and continued on Mil Potrero Rd. and finally, Cerro Noroeste Rd. to the junction with Hwy 33/166.

I then went west a few miles until turning left onto Hwy 33 back toward Ojai again. From there I retraced my route back home.

The entire loop was great with nobody ever passing me and only having to pass a few other cars the whole day.

The road conditions appear to have been greatly improved in the last month or so without any rain.

I forgot to mention that the short dirt portion mentioned in a prior post is still there, but very easy to get thru in the Mini. The other thing mentioned in a post in this thread was the very poor paving job on the long patch somewhere on this loop. I knew that was what Ronin was talking about as soon as I saw it coming up.

I would consider the entire loop now officially "in season" and ready for more company.

5/4/08, Lockwood Valley Rd was clear from end to end, aside from the usual stream crossings (the big ones at the western end were a few inches deep) and the short gravel section.

Caught air in a couple places I hadn't before, must be the extra confidence from a clean road and new r-comps on my M.  Cheesy

Cooling our brakes at the east end...

Generally good condition.  There was a slight trickle of water at one of the crossings later in the course and the ever present gravel patch but otherwise a great ride.
